MemberI am a new member and am having difficulty browsing in order to have a menu. I have specific dietary needs: Gluton Free: low fat: low cholesterol: low sugar. I realise that is a lot to ask. I am the sort who would like a menu constructed so that I can just go to the shop with a shopping list. I think maybe I need some help navigating the website!

MemberHi, Trevor. It’s not a lot to ask at all :). In your profile, be sure to check all those things in the lower right corner, and when you use the Menu Planner (the full application, not the “Ready to Go,” you will receive a fitting menu based on your food choices, as well as the option to generate a shopping list (see the function toward the right end of the toolbar above your finished menu).

MemberI read it somewhere when I first decided to join, but now I can’t find it. Which are better replacements, the light blue items or the darker blue items?

KeymasterWe’ve made it easier for you to find healthier food choices, so you can achieve a health-level score of over 80%. In the Menu Planner, foods are colored from light blue to dark blue to show their health level. The lighter the color, the healthier the food. The darker the color, the less healthy. The foods in the lightest blue are the healthiest, and we recommend you stick with them as much as possible. If they are too different from the foods your familiar with, try to transition to them gradually.

MemberI have diabetes, high cholesterol, gastric reflux and diverticulitis and am completely confused about what sort of diet I should have

MemberHi, Ms. Geddes. First, you’ve come to the right place – the Trim Down Club program is based on principles of nutritional care for diabetes and high cholesterol. Second, I would recommend that you use the personal Menu Planner application (click on “Apps” above, and use the right-most option inside) so that your menus can be built based on foods you choose, and so you can avoid foods that may aggravate your digestive conditions. For reflux, it it is recommended to avoid fried, spicy, and acidic foods, as well as too much caffeine; other “restrictions” are very individual, so be aware of how you respond to food. Note that the meal arrangement here is supportive in that the smaller meals may be easier on your stomach. For diverticulitis, it is recommended that you avoid nuts, seeds, and popcorn, as well as other foods with tiny hard particles.

Memberhow do you find the “exchange” of carbs, protein, etc. on recipes that people have sent in. a lot of them just show the recipe but not what to exchange it with or the amount of carbs, etc. you don’t know if you’re using 1or 5 carbs or protein per recipe?

MemberHi, Jarijohn. You can see your allotted exchanges by clicking on the exchange view icon in the toolbar above your finished menu. A general list of exchanges of staples can be viewed here: http://www.trimdownclub.com/exchanges-view.

MemberHi there. I’m ashamed to admit that I have been off the website for a while. Sadly, last March my father suddenly passed away, so I got distracted with all of that and ever since, just completely lost all my efforts and progress with TDC. However, I recently decided with the new year, to get back on track. I’ve noticed quite a few changes since I was on last year, and one of them that I’m struggling with is the menu planner. I used to be able to completely change a meal from scratch if I wasn’t happy with it. Now, I’m seeing that when you create a menu, and you hit the little refresh or change meal icon, it just gives you another meal option (I think there’s like five options), but I cannot change the meal myself based on the exchanges. I hope that makes sense?? I would like to at times be able to put my own foods into my menu to replace the foods that are generated for me. Is this still possible, and I’m just not doing something right, or have they done away with this feature all together?? Thanks

KeymasterHey there, welcome back 🙂
You are right there have been a lot of changes in the last few months/year 😉
The manual switch a meal feature is currently under maintenance and it should be back in the coming week/s.

MemberHello, I really enjoy tea with semi skimmed milk and do not wish to give this up, as this is about eating sensibly and not be miserable. How do I know what to remove from my menus and reply with milk and tea? This is my first few days on here and am struggling a little. Also I work during the day and the menus provided to me are foods that I cannot realistically cook/eat during this time. I know I can swap foods out, but sometimes the choices are also inconvenient. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

MemberHi, tapdance. Tea is great, and a little semi-skimmed milk is fine – if it adds up to more than 120 ml throughout the day, just count it in your daily intake.
I suggest you use the personal Menu Planner application, so that you can select the foods that work for you.January 11, 2016 at 4:25 pm #33539tapdance
MemberHi Ossie-Sharon,
Thank you for replying to my questions. I do use the personal menu planner and have been through all the foods and selected what I like/love etc. However when it then provides me with my weekly menu, some of the lunch choices are to be cooked or not really suitable for when at work. When I try to swap them, the choices I can swap with are often more foods that I cannot really eat at lunch times i.e. if I knew what amount I should have for each of the food groups, I could then work this out I think! Many thanks.January 11, 2016 at 5:12 pm #33542tapdance
MemberDear Ossie-Sharon, I have realised that I had cooked foods selected for breakfast and/or lunch, so I have unticked these now, so they don’t appear for those times of meals. Hopefully will be ok now. Thanks.
