I have often bought the frozen meatless substitute products like: Morningstar Farms crumbles, the breakfast sausage, Bocca burgers, that type of frozen product. Are these OK to substitute for meat?
Hi, jdwoodward. In general, those types of products can be good. Unfortunately, those particular brands use soy that was grown under questionable conditions and they use toxic processing techniques. I would suggest using organic products, and those known to be “hexane-free” (list here: http://cornucopia.org/hexane-guides/hexane_guide_meat_alternatives.html, plus Beyond Meat).
Wow, thanks for the info on Hexane, I never knew this and thought I was being so health conscience with the meat substitutes.
Been there! It’s one of the reasons we recommend against processed soy products. However, if you can find good ones and they keep you from eating meat, more power to you 🙂 🙂
