Hi! When entering my profile, I chose the “weight loss” option (as opposed to maintaining) as my goal. My question is, based on my age and weight, when I planned my menu using the foods I like, did the program automatically evaluate my caloric intake with the amount of weight I want to lose? There was no question, that I can recall, about exercise routine or levels, so I’m not sure how it could have (though I hope it did). I nevertheless love the ability to plan menus based on the proper ratios for fat burning! Thanks for any insight!

Hi, Anna. The calculations are based on the average club member, assumes a certain level of physical activity – because we encourage it. For people who have an unusual lifestyle or physical condition, I help them one-on-one.
By the way, in looking at your height and weight, it is not clear why you want to lose weight; is one of the numbers in error?

Hi, As a new member I was wondering if I didn’t have all the items in one of the meal menus could I just select another item from a different day of the week. I would change a snack item for a different one allowed on my menu planner, or substitute a veggie or fruit for a different days item. Would this mess up the daily caloric and allowed number of carbs, dairy, whatever, intake very much or is it doable? Thanks for your input.

Hi, as a new member, I am a bit confused with the recipes, my understanding was equal amounts of protein to carbs, the recipes don’t seem to have this, also not sure about the values and the chart, can you please explain this. Thank you

I cannot exercise because of health problems. Please give me some individual help for menu.

Hi, louannasbury. I’m happy to help. Can you describe your physical limitations? Dieting history?

Hi, Jan, and welcome! Yes – absolutely!! If you are trading foods from similar food groups, it’s all good. The point is to be comfortable with planning your menus – make them your own.

Hi, 14coppertree, and welcome. Regarding the protein and carb amounts, the overall menus have ratios of about 1 gram protein to 3 grams carbohydrates. Individual foods or recipes don’t necessarily need to have this.
Regarding the chart, I’m not sure to what you are referring. Can you describe it or send a link?

Hi all- just signed up today and will be reading more to find out all I can. I’m only 39 and I’m overweight and my blood pressure is rising already. I want to loose some weight to regulate my blood pressure and become more healthy. I live in the south and try to eat as healthy as I can. But we only have Walmart here and many of these foods can’t be found there. I’ve actually lost about 10lbs over the last yr but want to lose more. I just need a menu with practical everyday foods with specific name brand examples. Sometimes I’m not even sure if I’m getting truly whole grain bread.
MY FIRST QUESTION IS WHAT ARE NATURAL PANCAKES AND WHERE CAN I GET THEM? Is there a particular name brand I should look for?

I have ongoing deterioration in my spine even thought I already have rods & screws trying to hold it all together. The bad discs in my upper and lower back effect all the nerves which causes pain throughout my body. The most exercise possible is walking around my house and standing no longer than 30 minutes. Even arm exercises put too much stress on my back. For the last 5 years, I’ve been on well-balanced diets, with 6 meals a day, planned by nutritionists. However, they have said I must limit my calories because of my inactivity. So, I’ve been eating 1200 calories a day but still not losing weight. Finding non-GMO’s and SWG products are just not possible here. I eat only fresh produce, fish, poultry, and lean pork and use 2% dairy products. I use stevia and don’t eat sugar.

Hi, JD Spencer/MusicMan8, an welcome! We can’t give specific brand names, but if you look online at such sites as Amazon.com and WalMart (some free shipping offered http://www.walmart.com/cp/grocery/976759), you can get some ideas. You can also look at website featured here: http://www.trimdownclub.com/shopping-links-for-healthy-foods. The trick is to try to eat whole fresh foods as much as possible and to look at the ingredients lists of readymade foods to make sure they are whole grain, etc., and do not contain artificial, overly processed, or refined ingredients. “Natural” pancakes refers to frozen or mix products that have real food ingredients (perhaps even organic), without lots of preservatives, artificial flavors, etc. Such foods are available at health-oriented stores, including large chains such as Whole Foods Market.

Hi, louannasbury, and thanks for the detailed information. Your food choices sound great, but unfortunately, 1200 calories per day is a ‘recipe’ for weight problems.
Are you able to drive? If so, there is a WalMart about 20 minutes from you, at Academy. 5815 Wyoming Blvd NE. Albuquerque. Further, Rio Rancho itself has a WalMart Supercenter at 901 Unser Blvd Se, and you can order healthy ingredients from their website at http://www.walmart.com/cp/grocery/976759, with very affordable shipping options.
As for your physical condition, do you have access to physical therapy? This can be very, very important for improving quality of life in conditions such as yours AND for getting your metabolic rate back in order after being on such a restrictive diet. See also the following guide (with video links) for managing the pain and improving movement: http://www.spine-health.com/wellness/exercise/stretching-back-pain-relief. In the meantime, do take advantage of the time you can walk around the house. perhaps try a couple of 20 minute light walks here and there, along with some stretches as approved by your healthcare provider.
As for your menu here, it most likely provides too much for you at this point. I would recommend eating about 3/4 of what currently appears on your menu, though taking care to get at least 5 total servings per day of fruits + vegetables and at least 3 totals servings per day of high-calcium foods. If you would like more detailed help with his, you are welcome to post a sample day of your menu (copy and paste here), and I will give an example.
