MemberHi All,
I just started and am trying to follow the menu plan very closely but we are having dinner at a Mexican restaurant so just wanted to know if you had any tips or suggestions on my best options. I”m thinking fajitas so I can try to stick to the protein/veggie ratio but what about tortillas? Sour cream and guac are allowed on the plan but how much I don’t know? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks,

MemberHi, Vicki.
With tortillas, it depends on the size. Note that one that is 6-inches in diameter equals 1 carbohydrate exchange, but each two additional inches adds a whole carbohydrate exchange.
For sour cream, every 5 teaspoons (a little less than two tablespoons) is a fat exchange; for guacamole, evey 10 teaspoons (a little more than 3 tablespoons) is a fat exchange – if you can limit your intakes of those rich foods, it may be best for your efforts here.
Note that salsa can be used much more freely (every 1/2 cup is a vegetable exchange or half a carbohydrate exchange).
To see how many of what exchanges you are alloted for each meal and day, click on the “Exchange mode” icon in the toolbar above your menu. Note that you can combine exchanges from your dinner and night snack to give yourself more freedom for a restaurant dinner. Using Mexican food as an example, you could have a total of 3/4 cup of fajitas (just under 6 ounces) plus 2-3 6-inch tortillas (or two ready-made meat+tortilla fajitas), with 2 tablespoons of sour cream, 3 tablespoons of avocado, and 1/2 cup of salsa, plus a small side salad with lemon juice. - AuthorPosts
