MemberHi Ossie Sharon, thanks for the advice about maybe I am getting too much high fibre and my body is not use to that. I do question the idea of drinking 8 ounces of water at meal time as I thought that would affect the absorption of the nutrients, is that not true?

MemberHi, LoriJoan. Most healthy people are not so adversely affected by drinking with meals. If you had a certain type of digestive disorder or surgery, it could be.

MemberHi, Jenn044, and welcome. “Natural” is not a brand name, but rather a legal term allowed for a food that has minimal artificial/processed components, which is what this program encourages. You will find the designation on the label. It is not a perfect system, but still better than all artificial.
As for your personal tastes, the Menu Planner has many foods considered conventional – as long as you don’t eat too many processed foods, you should do fine. Perhaps you can experiment with some whole grain products to see if you might like some (for example, brown rice pasta does not have a grainy texture) or consider mixing foods to enable some whole grains in (for example, half whole grain, half white rice or pasta), etc.
Regarding eating “the same thing every day,” can you be more specific? Are there foods that you choose that are not coming up in your daily diets that you selected when going through the Menu Planner? I ask because the system requires a minimum of choices that should provide some variety, unless you checked the “minimum variety” box at the end of your selection process.June 5, 2013 at 2:01 am #12258chewthru
MemberThanks Ossie for the quick reply. Unfortunately I have been unable to squeeze in enough time to get back online due to circumstances beyond my control. I just did a quick check and found your reply…was going to give the menu planner another shot but am having the same problem as LisaDoyal and did not find a reply to her. For the last 5 days I’ve been winging it on my own with lots of fruits and veggies, some proteins and very limited starch carbs…I’ve lost 2 lbs. Could you please help with how to get to the menu without having to cycle through all the choice pages? Thanks

MemberHi, chewthru and LisaDoyal. To get straight to your menu without making any changes, just click on the “Snacks” tab (the last of the meal categories), and go straight down to the “Finish” button and click on it,

MemberHi everyone. I have just joined and have enjoyed reading the posts. I love the healthy approach but there does seem to be a lot of food. Could someone please tell me what proportion of carbs, protein, fat I should be eating. Many thanks

MemberHi, lis56beth, and welcome. The program’s proportions are about 25% of energy from protein, 40-45% from carbohydrates, and 30-35% from fat. Note that the fats recommended here are “good” fats, and so you don’t need to be concerned about what may look like a large number.

MemberI started on Tuesday (June 4). First day I felt bloated and tired, did not feel like exercising, could not get in one of the snacks. On the second day felt better by the afternoon. Only had the evening snack. I feel this is to much food for me, will try cutting the portions in half. Is this ok? I did get in exercises on 2nd day. I am a 52 yr. old female going thru premenapause with ulcerative colitis, osteopenia, & lower back pain. My weight is 140 lbs. Any suggestions?

MemberHi,
I tried to contact technical support with my questions and they sent me here, perhaps you can answer them:
I put salmon in as one of my menu choices and it doesn’t come up anywhere on the menu. I tried changing the lean protein choices and it still doesn’t come up. On my own, can I substitute 3.5 ounces of salmon for any lean protein on the menu planner, as long as, I don’t exceed 2 portions per week? Also I make my own bread, if I use a ratio of 3 parts whole wheat flour to 1 part white flour what color would the font be for my bread (ie what would be similar choice in the menu planner)?
Thanks.June 6, 2013 at 7:11 pm #12316Ossie-Sharon
MemberHi, dlcochrun, and welcome. I don’t know what your eating habits were before you joined, but it really sounds like your body is still getting used to the significant amount of fiber on this plan. Since you have a history of ulcerative colitis hopefully you are being followed by a healthcare provider, including a nutritionist. As for cutting back on portions, half may be too little, and may result in rebound weight gain and you not getting adequate basic nutrition. I would be more than happy to take a look at your menu, if you could post a sample day, along with your height, and what exercise activity you normally do or aim to do (and schedule). This program takes some getting used to for some people, so don’t worry too much.

MemberHi, WMaier. Yes, you can definitely substitute salmon for another lean protein.
Regarding your bread, homemade is a great choice, especially if you use whole grain flour. If you can get to 100% whole grain flour, even better. If the taste and/or texture bother you, see if you can substitute for the white flour with brown rice flour, which is quite delicate, but gives you better nutrition. - AuthorPosts
