MemberHi Antoinette, and welcome. Please do be sure to try the personal version of the Menu Planner application, so that you can select the foods that work for you, and avoid the ones that don’t.

MemberI just signed up and am feeling very overwhelmed. I’m not sure I can get all this different kind of food – it’s pretty complex and some of them I’m no sure where to go to get – example: the pizza. Can I put cheese on this? Just meat? Looking at the menus I’m going to have to buy a tremendous amount of food. I understand variety is important but I’m not sure my fridge can hold all this – sorry, I’m feeling a little scared right now. This all seems very complicated.

MemberHi, NVjac. You don’t need to worry about unfamiliar, special foods – especially not at the beginning. Try starting with making a menu with the foods you have (you can do this by clicking on “My Food Choices” in the toolbar above your menu), and upgrade gradually.

MemberOkay, I’m a little calmer now. I’m following your advice – trying to stick to the foods I have. I had to stalk up on the foods I didn’t have but I think I can keep up but I do have a bunch of questions. What can I drink (aside from water, milk and tea)? I don’t have a blender to make smoothies. As pop, juice (and my favourite – vitamin water) are all out, what CAN I drink? Also, I’m having difficulty finding whole milk. If I can’t find whole milk, what’s the best substitute? I bought organic 2%. Should 3.25 % have been better?

MemberHi, NVjac. I’m glad to read you’re getting your bearings. You drink things like smoothies and milks, but those are considered foods in your plan. If you’re inquiring about beverages, note that the water can be carbonated and/or flavored – you can flavor it with fruit and herbs, steeping it just like tea, and sweeten it (if you wish) with high-quality natural options like Stevia and erythritol. To get ideas, see http://www.trimdownclub.com/how-to-make-detox-water, and remember that you can make them with soda water.
Regarding milk, organic 2% is fine. The trick is to avoid milk with “milk solids” added.
