MemberI’ve been off and on diets, and “life changes” forever. I’m 62 and accidentally and happily found this site. I think it can help me at this point in my life, where I just can’t seem to get it together dietwise…I need someone to hold my hand so to speak.I just started the plan yesterday…April 18, and am looking forward to losing my chubby middle roll and feeling better…as well as giving my grandson better food. My first recipe is the “Broccoli Butternut Muffin”..looking forward to making them later today.
God bless us all as we start out on this new venture. I want to lose 20 lbs by the end of June….and now I feel like I can do it. (at an unhealthy 185 lbs now….I better do it)

MemberI am new to the club too and want to eliminate the processed foods. I am surprized that I can now have my coffee without sugar or artificial sweeteners but put only 2% HEB Mootopia in my coffee and it tastes great! But this kind of milk has been modified so it has more protein, less sugar, and is lactose-free (I am lactose intolerant). So is HEB Mootopia milk a processed food too and should I be eliminating it also? My alternative is heavy cream which I love but is loaded with fat, of course. Cream doesn’t have carbs (lactose is milk sugar – carbs)so it doesn’t bother me. Could a professional dietitian please answer this question? Ther are others also: Is Smucker’s 100% fruit spread a processed food and is it acceptable on TrimDown?

MemberHi, lschuchmann. The challenge with Mootopia is that it contains acesulfame K, used as a replacement for sugar (hence the term “reduced sugar” in the ingredients list). Artificial sugar substitutes, even no-carb ones like this, have been shown in studies to affect the body in ways that can interfere with your efforts here. Having written that, the effects are also dependent on the amount and frequency used. If you are talking about a tablespoon each day, neither the cream or substitute would be a big problem.
As for the jam product, again, it is a matter of amount – a teaspoon or too each day is still better than the usual high-sugar jelly.April 28, 2013 at 1:08 pm #11294healthybodynow

MemberHi, healthybodynow. The program is definitely for diabetics. It is based on many of the same principles as the “diabetic diet” promoted by the American Diabetes Association.
