MemberHi can someone advise me on portion size please. I really don’t have time weight everything – and to be honest life really is too short. I like most people have a really busy life, I have 3 dogs, 2 horses, work full time and trying to start my own business in between. when I do sit down in the evening the last thing I want to do is weight food for the following day so I do have a tendency to grab. Is there a rule of thumb on portion size I’m not loosing any weight so realise that I am simply eating too much.

MemberHi, Debbie. First, the weighing part is temporary. Very quickly, you will get a sense of what a portion size looks like, and you’ll be fine without a scale.
The rule of thumb is basically the palm of your hand – 2 oz meat or substitute is half your palm, and 3-4 oz is a whole palm; a serving of fruits or vegetables is a handful.
I’m attaching our list of portion sizes http://www.trimdownclub.com/exchanges-lists/ – it seems overwhelming, but again, it is just an initial investment in getting a sense of things. Once in a while you can check, but really, it does become second nature.August 17, 2013 at 11:21 pm #14134SkinnyGin
MemberI’m not weighing anything, but am trying to just focus on eating smaller portions than I used to. If I eat out, I’m drawing an imaginary line through 1/2 my dinner & eating only 1/2 of it. the rest is good for lunch or dinner in 2 days.

MemberHi, Debbie! Welcome to TDC! I began in late Dec and it was kind of overwhelming at first … and took lots of time. But now that I am an old pro at this, (haha)I can work it all faster. I have weighed and measured faithfully since I began … and now I can “eyeball” the amount that I need almost perfectly. I still weigh and measure some … just to keep me on my toes! Some people do not eat enough (and their body hoards the weight) while others eat too much … especially of the wrong things. The weighing and measuring helps us get ourselves in line! 😉 Just hang in there and be patient! It will be worth it! And when you do make a recipe, measure out the leftovers, label and freeze them. You will get a stash before you know it which helps tremendously!! Good luck!
