I’m pre-diabetic and have no enzymes to digest beef or pork. I haven’t eaten either since the 1960’s. How can I get more protein? Is it true that carbonated beverages decrease protein absorbtion?
Hi, JudiScali. Do you have problems with all animal products, or just those? The Menu Planner lists a variety of seafood and poultry products, as well as eggs, dairy, vegetarian protein options such as seitan, legumes, and nuts – from which you can get protein. The Menu Planner will ensure you get plenty of protein, while keeping carbs to less than half of your energy, as recommended for a pre-diabetic state, especially in women over 50.
Regarding carbonated beverages: the carbonation itself has no effect; however, some additives in sweetened carbonated beverages have been linked to metabolic disturbances that ultimately involve protein, though absorption is not one of the issues.
