Blueberry62MemberI’m new in the club and I have a question about the dinner meals. It lists on the menu like tuna. Can I make a tuna casserol or do I have to eat the tuna plain with seasonings? And can I combine some of the ingredients that are on the menu to make a meal? Like if it has tuna and also green salad, can I mix the tuna with mayo or something and have it on the salad? KarenB

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Blueberry62. Yes, you can definitely combine the ingredients on the menu to make a meal. Similarly, if you are going to use the tuna to make a casserole, be sure to take those ingredients from other parts of your menu so you don’t overdo. For example, if you like a tuna-noodle casserole, you can swap in the noodles where there might have been another starchy carbohydrate (i.e. rice, bread, potato), and swap in mayonnaise in place of another fat (i.e. salad dressing).

Blueberry62MemberThank you Ossie-Sharron. This menu planning is taking a little getting use to. Hit some snags but still followed the menu. I appreciate your advice. I was wondering if I can eat home canned peaches when it says 1 peach on the menu. I made them in light syrup but I don’t drink the syrup. I haven’t seen any peaches in the store this time of year.

TBlueMaxMemberI have some food allergies, for example to artificial sweeteners, mushrooms, soy, etc. So how make substitutions in my meal plans that might have them in it? Did I miss something somewhere is there a place to note these things?

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, TBlueMax. We actually discourage artificial sweeteners at every opportunity, as for the mushrooms and any other food allergy you may have, the nature of the Menu Planner is that you choose which foods to include and which to avoid, so no worries.
