I just joined today and have printed up a menu and I don’t know what the “free spread” is?

    Hi Cinclare,
    Thanks for posting.
Free spreads can be used freely on bread without them being in your menu.
    Best 🙂

Don’t think this reply tells what the free spreads are. Don’t you just click on “free spreads” and a list pops up?

    #34985

Sorry, it is the saucepan icon you click on alongside anything you want extra info about, not the words themselves.

Can anyone tell me if I can use unlimited fresh garlic, basil, parsley, etc when I Cook?
Also, if I use breadcrumbs to cook, how much is equal to one bread serving?
Lastly, if use balsamic vinegar in my salad, what does that count as and how much can I use?

    Hi Starlight82,
Yes, we encourage you to eat all of the listed foods in each meal.
    Best 🙂

Hi, Susan. Herbs, spices, and vinegars are free and actually encouraged for their health value. As for bread crumbs, 3 tablespoons is equal to a carb exchange.

Does anyone know where to find lunch recipes for brown bagging it?

    #35149

Hi, goloriann. The following are some ideas:
    •Fresh and dried fruit
    •Cut raw vegetables
    •Oven-baked vegetable chips
    •Nuts and seeds
•Trail mix combinations of nuts, seeds, and dried fruit
•Sandwiches – good breads with nut butters, hummus and similar spreads, tahini, canned or smoked fish, cheese, homemade “cold cuts” from fresh meats, egg salad, etc.
•Whole grain or Paleo crackers plus any of the above
    •Hard-boiled eggs
    •Sliced or string cheese
    •Cottage cheese
    •Yogurt
•Milk (dairy or vegetal), plain or flavored with cocoa powder and a recommended sweetener
•Hearty soup in a thermos (2-3 food groups, i.e. meat or legume, vegetable, whole grain)
    •Hearty smoothie/shake in a thermos (2-3 food groups, i.e. fruit/vegetable, dairy/vegan, seeds)
    •Edamame or other legume/pulse snacks
•Whole grain or Paleo cereal or granola (cold in small sealable bag, cooked in thermos)
    •Canned beans
•Prepared healthy foods in containers – from leftovers or prepared the night or weekend before.
    •Homemade whole-food muffins or bars
•Popped grains, i.e. organic popcorn, sorghum, quinoa

What about Sardines, Can I add them to my menu? Can I eat Deli Meat instead of a pork chop or a steak for lunch? or when can I substitute deli meats in my menu? Is Sharp cheddar cheese Ok to use instead of some of the others cheeses listed? Is there a list of anytime unlimited foods anywhere on this site? I am a new subscriber and haven’t started the diet yet as I am trying to figure it all out first.
    Thank you
    Paul

Hi, Paul, and welcome! I’m happy to help.
Sardines are definitely a recommended food, and are in our Menu Planner food lists. We favor fresh meats over deli meats because they are less processed and so are more supportive of healthy weight management. You can slice any fresh meat to be able to fit comfortably in a sandwich.
Regarding cheddar cheese, any type is fine, as long as it is the real thing and not “processed” – we categorize it as a “hard cheese” (different from cottage and cream cheeses) and anything similar is fine as well.
As for “unlimited foods,” you can find these in the Menu Planner (http://www.trimdownclub.com/menu-planner/) under the “Free Foods” category.
