MemberHi, CarolHope.
1) You can see examples of what we mean by having a protein with carb servings in our menus. It is really very simple – just endeavor to have a source of protein with any high-carbohydrate food.
2) We use exchanges in this program, which are building blocks for menus used by dietetic organizations around the world. They are groups of nutritional values for certain foods. The approximates are here:
1 carbohydrate exchange = 15 grams of carbohydrates + up to 3 grams of protein
1 protein exchange = 7 grams of protein + up to 5 grams of fat
1 fat exchange = 5 grams of fat
1 fruit exchange = 15 grams of carbohydrates
1 vegetable exchange = 5 grams of carbohydrates + up to 2 grams of protein
1 sweet exchange = up to 15 grams of carbohydrates + up to 5 grams of fat
1 free exchange = up to 5 grams of carbohydrates or up to 2 grams of protein or fat
3) You can ask any questions you want in these forums, and I will get back to you – no need to search for an email.May 31, 2020 at 6:36 am #45870lanediet
MemberJust starting diet Monday, June 1st. Bit confused when I did my first day of picking foods, then went to exchange information, it only shows 8 carbs for the day. Having been on many diets, I know the food I picked is more than 8 carbs. I am a diabetic so I do need to watch. Try to keep my carbs between 30-50 or I’ll “crash and burn” as they say. Can you explain?

MemberHi, LaneDiet, and welcome! The “carbs” you see are actually exchanges, not grams. We use an exchange system similar to that of diabetes organizations around the world. Our exchanges translate to the following approximate nutritional values:
1 carbohydrate exchange = 15 grams of carbohydrates + up to 3 grams of protein
1 protein exchange = 7 grams of protein + up to 5 grams of fat
1 fat exchange = 5 grams of fat
1 fruit exchange = 15 grams of carbohydrates
1 vegetable exchange = 5 grams of carbohydrates + up to 2 grams of protein
1 sweet exchange = up to 15 grams of carbohydrates + up to 5 grams of fat
1 free exchange = up to 5 grams of carbohydrates or up to 2 grams of protein or fat - AuthorPosts
