MemberI appreciate the meal planner but what I really want is understanding on how to put my meals together without it. I am trying to decipher…do i need one grain, one dairy, one fruit/veg with each meal. I know I have sugar issues…I believe hypoglycemic.
So this morning I had 8 oz of c antelope and 1/2 C of cottage cheese for breakfast…should i be eating a carb…say a slice of whole wheat bread or is the cantelope the carb?August 6, 2013 at 9:06 pm #13847Ossie-Sharon
MemberHi, GaitedGurl. The cantaloupe is a type of carb. The whole wheat bread provides a slightly different mix of carbs (more insoluble). Did you have only the cantaloupe and cheese for breakfast? That seems like a very small breakfast – in that case, adding a slice of bread would be recommended.
If you leave me your height, weight, and weight goal (i.e. loss or maintenance), I can give you your pattern here. The exchanges are similar to those used by the American Diabetic Association.August 7, 2013 at 6:33 pm #13886MLynnM
MemberI have already been carefully planning my meals, preparing them and avoiding prepackaged, processed foods entirely (with the exception of a daily Lemon Lara bar). I misunderstood from the ‘preview’ before joining, that this plan simply plugs you into full meals. Like Gaited Gurl (btw we have a gaited horse, too), I was hoping to have some advice on what to eat at certain times of the day (how to combine things).

MemberHi, lois1939. The program offers a guide called “Staying Strong when the Routine is Gone,” which covers restaurant eating. You can contact customer service through the “Contact Us” link to order the package that includes this guide, along with a couple of other guides and the audio version of all the texts.

MemberI have organic bulgar and Farrow in my pantry. Can I use these in anything to substitute in the menu?

MemberI concocted an interesting spread for the SWG toast. Put the goat cheese and yogurt in the food processor to make a spread. One time I added the cottage cheese as well. Pretty tasty.

MemberHi, lmgslvr. You can swap those out for any starch – 1/2 cup for 1/2 cup rice, pasta, quinoa, freekah, barley, etc.

MemberI am a pescatarian. I eat fish and all fruits, veggies, and trying to reduce my dairy intake. In your menu options, there is no option to avoid meat (poulty, beef etc) I find myself downloading several menu’s to find a menu that works for me. Any suggestions?

MemberHi, gingerhoney. In the Menu Planner application, you can select and avoid any foods you want for your menus. What are you downloading that is giving you trouble?

MemberI think I figured out what I did wrong with the menu planner. Will give it another go next week. On another note, just made the amaranth, tempeh, pesto–I used the pesto and stir fried the tempeh in it and tossed in broccoli. this was my first day following the menu, Yay! However never made the amaranth. Followed the package for directions and it came out the consistency of risotto. I just mixed everything up together and added liquid aminos which I use for flavoring. It seems like we can improvise on the seasonings yes? Not sure how to juggle all the parts yet–I find myself looking up what an oz of this or that is etc, as I also found it to be alot more food than I am used to consuming…but all yummy combinations.
