MemberHi, Missy76, and welcome. If you are using the Menu Planner, access the personal version by clicking on the “My Food Choices” icon in the toolbar above your current menu, you will see some of our recipes in the “Recipes” subcategory of each major food group. For newer recipes that have not yet been added into the system, you can use them to substitute for the main ingredient in your meal. You can also match up the exchanges visible at the end of each recipe and when you click on “Exchange mode” in the toolbar above your menu. It doesn’t need to be a perfect match to work.
Since you are interested in keto, note that the standard menu pattern is only low-carbohydrate. To make your menu keto-compliant, access the subapplication of the Menu Planner by clicking on the circular arrow icon on the right side of each meal header. Once in that area, select foods of your choice to match the food group exchanges listed, but making the following substitutions:
1. Two fats for each carbohydrate exchange
2. Non-starchy vegetables instead of fruits, one exchange for one exchange
3. No sweet exchange
4. Talk to your health care provider about multivitamin/mineral and calcium supplements.
You may find our sample menu helpful (http://www.trimdownclub.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/14-Day-Keto-Express-Meal-Plans.pdf). Note, however, that the portion sizes may differ from those needed to meet your nutritional needs – it is still best to refer to your menu pattern (visible by clicking on “Exchange mode” in the toolbar above your menu) and list of exchanges (http://www.trimdownclub.com/exchanges-lists).
As far as beverages go, we of course recommend water, still or carbonated, plain or flavored with cut up fruit peels (just steep like tea). We also recommend teas and coffee – just be wise about what you add to it, avoiding artificial creamers and sweeteners. If you like soda, we recommend you make your own rather than relying on readymade products with excessive sugar or artificial sweeteners that can work against your goals here; just dress up plain soda water with natural flavor extracts (yes, “cola” is available!) or citrus peels and a natural no-carb sweetener (such as Stevia, monk fruit, and/or erythritol). Other beverages, such as fresh-squeezed juices and milks, are considered foods.
Bulletproof coffee can take the place of fat exchanges in your menu – the coffee part is “free,” of course, and each teaspoon of butter or coconut/MCT oil is a fat exchange.
