I don’t understand the ‘exchanges’ given at the end of the recipes. Could someone explain please
Hi, cluett. These are similar to units of food components used by diabetes associations around the world to plan menus for managing blood sugar and weight. For example: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetic-exchange.html. Our exchange lists are here: http://www.trimdownclub.com/exchanges-lists.
The general values are as follows:
1 Carb = 15 grams of carbohydrates + up to 3 grams of protein
1 Protein = 7 grams of protein + up to 5 grams of fat
1 Fat = 5 grams of fat
1 Fruit = 15 grams of carbohydrates
1 Vegetable = up to 5 grams of carbohydrates + up to 2 grams of protein
1 Sweet = up to 15 grams of carbohydrates + up to 5 grams of fat
Free = up to 5 grams of carbohydrates or protein, or 2 grams of fat.
