MemberI am a health professional recently joined the trimdown club…I read an interesting article that says Type 2 Diabetes could be reversed if a strict 800 calories per day diet for two months is followed..Any thoughts?

MemberHi, anjani. This is based on single cases, with no real research behind it. The closest that research has come to this is showing how people nearly at death’s door from morbid obesity with diabetes have been saved by a brief period of a very low-calorie diet (as is the case with 800/day). However, these were were under strict medical supervision, and there is always a high risk of rebound weight gain and return of the dire health condition. Unfortunately, no-one has called anything a diabetes cure – over time, the body may get to a point where it processes blood sugar as a non-diabetic would, but there is still an increased risk of future problems.
In contrast, the Trim Down Club program aims to be a long-term solution, and so does not restrict calories severely. Instead, it is based on principles in diabetes research, such as complex, high-fiber carbohydrates, spreading out carbohydrate intake over the day, and ensuring adequate protein with carbohydrates, as well as right-sizing intake and encouraging exercise. - AuthorPosts
