    I am 59 years old and have acid reflux and hemoroids . Whenever I change my eating habits I began to have frequency of bowel elimination which causes rectal bleeding, itching and rectal pain. This is due to the increase in fiber foods. I also become very gassy and bloated. I am lactose intolerant and can’t eat eggs.
    For breakfast I usually have fruit, 1 slice of grain toast with almond or peanut butter. Sometimes I have kashi cereal with rice milk and a fruit.I don’t like oatmeal, breakfast meats, bacon, turkey sausage or pancakes.
    I love beans and quinoa, but the beans make me so gassy as do most foods. I have started working out 3 times a week for an hour each time.
    It is so hard for me to stay on a diet because there are so many foods that create problems for me.
    Can someone please write me a simple diet that is repetitive, non gassy and doesn’t require a lot of cooking or ingredients, especially for breakfast. Also is it okay to eat protein bars as a snack with a fruit..

    Hi, Robyninez. I looked over the menus you got from the Menu Planner and they look fine. Feel free to repeat them as much as you want. I noticed you chose chili with beans, but I understand it is something you like very much. Hopefully the beans won’t affect you too badly.
    Regarding “Vegetables of Your Choice,” try avoiding the following gas-inducing ones: broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, brussels sprouts, onions, mushrooms, artichokes, and asparagus, in addition to beans.
    Additional foods that may cause gas include
    Among fruits: pears, apples, and peaches
    Among whole grains: whole wheat and bran
    Among beverages (which we don’t recommend anyway): sodas; fruit drinks, especially apple juice and pear juice; and other drinks that contain high-fructose corn syrup, a sweetener made from corn
    milk and milk products such as cheese, ice cream, and yogurt
    packaged foods—such as bread, cereal, and salad dressing—that contain small amounts of lactose, a sugar found in milk and foods made with milk
    Sugar-free candies and gums that contain sugar alcohols such as sorbitol, mannitol, and xylitol
