I’m new, and this question has probably been asked and answered many times, but I cannot find it anywhere, so…..may I substitute one fruit for another? Like a banana for a peach, or an orange for an apple? Also, may I substitute one meat protein for another, like fish for red meat? We eat very little red meat – mostly fish or vegetarian meals. When I attempt vegetarian meals, how do I choose one protein over another?
Thanks for the help!
Hi, Kabob, and welcome. Absolutely! Just be aware of a few differences in portion size for fruits – rule of thumb is that a serving is about the size of your fist, and a banana is equal to 2 fruit servings. Meat/poultry/fish is more straight-forward – 1 ounce = 1 ounce. As for vegetarian alternatives (and other substitution options), you can refer to these lists here – http://www.trimdownclub.com/exchanges-lists.
