it is not always possible to mix and match the meals as recommended even with the flexibility this program offers(which is impressive).
But in those times, when I cannot match and have to make quick changes, it would help if I understood how the food combination works. I did read the literature I received from this program and understood that combining foods from different food categories is beneficial and may make the difference between succeeding and failing. But there must be more precise methodology behind it, which I wish to understand better to make best choices.
Some of my meal plan suggests to combine popcorn, baked chips and pudding (not all at the same meal) all from the store, these kind of foods cannot be good for me.

But apparently, there is a method, which would allow it to work, so please either explain it to me or point me to the appropriate article, so I would gain much needed knowledge.

Hi, Ian and Louanna. There are two basic principles here with regard to food combinations –
    1. Have a protein with a carbohydrate
    2. Try to have “square” meals – i.e., a protein, carbohydrate, and vegetable, with good fats added for seasoning, and some of the proteins or vegetables also being sources of calcium.
You can also build your own menu, if you wish, by clicking on the circular icon at the upper right hand corner of each meal. The following is a list of exchanges you can use there: http://www.trimdownclub.com/exchanges-lists.
