jackieeMemberHi Moptop, yes you should eat all that’s on your meal planner. It’s a healthy eating plan based on your weight so it balanced on that. I also have an under active thyroid but it controlled with meds, last year I did lose weight on here but found that when that changed it was because my medications was not right and needed the dose adjusted, hope this helps, if not Sharon Ossie should get back to you soon with the trim down professional advise. The eating plan may seem a lot but it’s based on giving you the right balance during the day so you never feel hungry and store fat. Good luck

ShirleyKalinoskyMemberI have thyroid issues and I don’t eat soy or tofu. It affects the meds and can make it so they don’t work at all. I Googled it and it’s true. I first read about it in a women’s magazine and then on Oprah.

rosemarykey11MemberI take levothyroxine and do not eat soy or tofu. I do not eat all what is on the food plan. But I have lost 15lb this is mainly because of all the foods which I have cut out of my diet.

jackieeMemberThanks for the info about So and tufo, it’s really good to know since last year I really struggled getting my level right with my meds. Curious Rosemary what foods did you cut out of your diet and was that just to diet or because they affected your meds? thanks again ladies for the useful info.

blessingcatcherMemberHey, ladies! I also have low thyroid, which I am taking medication for as well. There are several foods that work against the thyroid’s proper working. This is a quote from Ossie-Sharon to me about such foods: “See if you eat significant amounts of any of the following: soy, cruciferous vegetables (Brussels sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, broccolini, cauliflower, mustard greens, kale, turnips, and collards), peanuts, pine nuts, millet, peaches, strawberries, spinach, and cassava root; sometimes gluten can interfere in people who are even borderline gluten-sensitive.” Notice she said “significant amounts”. But, if you eat several of the per day, day after day, it would definitely affect you.

jackieeMemberThank you Blessingcatcher, luckily most the listed veggies I avoid anyway due to IBS, but good to know about the fruits because when fruit comes into session here, ie the strawberries and peaches, my family do tend to have them every day in abundance since the fruit is free from the trees and land so needs consumed.

MontgomParticipantHi folks – I, too, have an underactive thyroid controlled by medication. I see most of my favorite foods on the list so maybe if I ease up on them and use substitutes, my weight loss will be a bit quicker. Loved reading this info – lots I didn’t know about.
Thanks, GeorgiaJanuary 17, 2014 at 1:33 pm #17458
monicamcdMemberHi im new and I too take meds for underactive thyroid, is there a menu planner just for us to follow, it would be so much easier

blessingcatcherMemberHi, Monica! I just use the TDC regular menu, opting for things that I know don’t fight against my thyroid issues. You can do it. It’s not that difficult. And, I like to have some of those things from time to time, so that way, you can work them in with no problem. The TDC menu is geared for healthy living … regardless of what issues you have. It really works. I promise! 😉
