I just started today. When it says rice cakes does that mean any flavor? The recipes don’t say how many proteins, starches, etc. are in each. I don’t see suggested serving sizes for the recipes. I’ve read everything and feel quite overwhelmed.

Hi, sashellenbarger. The overwhelmed feeling will go away, we promise! There is the getting-used-to-it-all effect, and you can continue to ask questions here, and hopefully find that our answers will help.
Yes, any flavor of unsweetened/uncoated rice cakes is fine. Regarding the recipes, we will be adding that information in the near future. In the meantime, those that you selected for and appear on your menu will have the portion size and corresponding nutrient exchange information (click on “View Menu Exchanges” off to the right).

Hi everyone, I have a question for Ossie Sharon. I thought I had seen tuna as a choice on the menu. Now I can’t find it? Of course I had gone out and bought a lot of tuna now it is never on my menu. Was this taken off/ and can I add it to lunch if I take away something else?
I have lost 10 pounds and have been on the diet for a month now. At least the scale moves and for that I am grateful. For over 3 years the scale would not budge. The Dr told me I needed to eat because I workout 7 days a week. Walk about 5 miles a day and gym 4 x a week. After joining this club, the scale moved because I am eating now. A lot of food! Some days I can’t fit in all the food and worry I am backsliding. Any suggestions? I am down to 138. I want to get down to 120 and maintain that weight. But just curious about the tuna. 🙂 Thanks! Rita

Hi, Rita. I’m glad to read things are going well for you.
I discussed the tuna issue with tech support. Are you choosing the kind in oil? If so, that might be the reason, because the system is picking up on the added fat. I requested a modification in the system for the future – this may take a while, so in the meantime, just swap it in for whatever protein does appear on your menu.

I hate canned Tuna, but I know that I need fish. Instead of making and flaking tuna, I bought a pound container from the deli. Then, I rinsed off all (or as much as I could) the mayonaise. With Sprouted Whole Grain toast, I made a delicious sandwhich. The tuna odor didn’t bother me!

Hi Ossie Sharon. Thanks for checking that out for me about the tuna. No the tuna I eat is in water not oil. But if I remember correctly, the choice just said tuna, not in water or oil. I could be wrong though. I don’t eat it with mayo, just the tuna that’s why I was surprised not to see it on my menu choices.
Anyway, I just made this soup Pasta Fasool. But instead of the small pasta they have in recipe, I used pasta that is made from Kamut and quinoa. Excellent!!

That’s a great idea opera girl about getting tuna from the deli instead of the can. I will have to check it out!

Hi i am just trying to get my head around the way this program works, but I’m finding the menu planner suggestions a bit obscure sometimes. However I am loving the look and taste of a lot of the recepies in the recipie section. My question is do the different meals work as balanced in a stand alone way, i.e can I choose any breakfast, lunch and dinner and 3 snacks that I like and combine them from the recipie section to create a tasty menu for the day myself??

Hi, funkypod, and welcome. The answer to your main question is yes – the benefits of the Menu Planner application go beyond the specific foods and also have to do with portion size, meal composition (food combining) and timing.
Regarding the foods – the fact that many are unfamiliar is part of what makes them particularly useful for weight loss. They are produced on a smaller scale and so have undergone less manipulation. Those that appear in the Menu Planner lists have been carefully selected for their impact on metabolism and support for healthy weight management. Some of these foods are gaining in popularity, and if you look into health-oriented stores and even some supermarkets and warehouse-style stores with grocery sections, you will see more and more of them (they are also widely available online, including through Amazon). I would encourage you to try a few once in a while, and perhaps find receipes that make them work for you, and eventually add them to your regular fare.

Thanks for the answer, I went back to the menu planner and narrowed the number of things that I ticked to items I am more used to and reduced the number of new recipies, and so I got a much more approachable menu for the week. I am now wondering i I can use lemon juice or balsamic vinegar as dressing on things like fish and couscous without affecting the results?

Hi, funkypod. Lemon juice and vinegars (as well as herbs and spices) are considered “free” and actually encouraged. Enjoy 🙂

How much oats and milk will I need to make 1 1/2 cups of porridge ( I am in the UK and struggling a bit with cups as measures!!)

    #13122

Hi, funkypod. You need about 1/3 cup (52 grams) of dry oats to make each cup of cooked porridge, so about 1/2 cup (78 grams) for 1-1/2 cups.
