I gained weight! I couldn’t even eat all that food and still I put on pounds. That isn’t what I expected. What am I doing wrong?

Susie, I understand you being upset. It happens to a lot of people. sometimes , it’s because they are measuring, or are inadvertently using an ingredient they shouldn’t, or your body is just resetting it’s metabolism. Several of our members and I came up with check list for plateau’s and gaining. I hope it helps. Good luck.

OOps , I forgot to put the list, my bad! 🙁
Are you discouraged? Why isn’t this working for me?
The majority of people on this plan join to lose weight. Have you had no weight loss in a week, two, maybe even three or four. Why? Any one of these May make a difference.
Are you eating everything on your menu?
    Are you drinking enough water?
Are you drinking alcohol as an extra in the day. It’s not a free item!
Are you drinking pop or fruit juice?
Are you weighing and measuring your food…very important.
    Are you still using sugar?
Are you adding sauces, gravies, and condiments without adding this into your menu?
Are you exercising? Cardio and strength.
Are you still using artificial sweeteners? Anything besides Stevia or monkfruit is out!
Are you watching your fats? NO ADDED FATS OF ANY KIND except what is listed on your menu!
Are you tasting what your cooking? How much? 1 spoon, 5 spoons, more? Yup, it all counts ;(
Have you been on a very restrictive diet? (If so , your body metabolism has to reset, it takes a couple of weeks)

also , if you are gaining it is more than likely that at this stage, your walking is making your body swap muscle for fat, and muscle is heavier – so the scale may stay the same, while you are getting more fit. Don’t rely on the number right now, just look at how your clothes are fitting, how you look in the mirror, and of course, how you are feeling. If you still seem stuck, please do repost here, and I will help troubleshoot for a solution.

I just started and am worried I will gain weight as i ate this much food in a day

I gained weight too. I am thyroidless. I just adjusted my amount but used same foods. EXample: instead of 1 cup oatmeal, 1/2 cup oatmeal. I can only eat 1200 calories a day without a thyroid. I believe for a normal thyroid and some exercise this program works as is. Love the high fiber, but a thyroidless person cant eat too much fiber without rechecking thyroid levels. It interferes with thyroid meds. I stick to about 20 – 25 gr of fiber even though I really would like to eat more. Everyone’s body is different. One size does not fit all, however the food combinations are great in this program.

Hi, to all concerned about weight gain. If you have been on restrictive diets in the past, this may seem like a lot of food, and it may take your body a while to get used to normal amounts of food again – however, this can be worth it if you consider this is intended to be a long-term way of life, and a very restrictive diet can be challenging to maintain. However, it is also important to be in tune with your hunger and satiety cues, and take advantage of the ability to maintain your weight without suffering. If you do cut back, be sure to get at least 5 total servings of fruits+vegetables and 3 servings of calcium-rich foods each day.

Hi, Manderson. It’s great that you are finding options that work for you! With regard to fiber interfering with thyroid function, are you avoiding goitrogenic foods in general?

    Ossie,
Yes, I am avoiding all goitrogenic foods. 🙂
