True, I am 73 and have very little metabolism and am hypothyroid on medication. I have gained weight, not lost. My thought is to eat the fruits, vegetables, and omit a lot of the carbs. I work out 4 to 5 times a week but have done that for the past 25 years. I have lost weight on the HCG diet but wanted to try something different to lose this 15 pounds I have put on during the last year. What is your thoughts?
Hi, FarmGirl41. Your plan sounds fine. However, if you have any kidney difficulties, please do tread cautiously there.
Another thought is that your muscles may have become too accustomed to your workouts and no longer burn energy like they used to. I would suggest trying some new exercises to wake up new muscles – weight training is an example. Additionally, you can add in a few bursts of high-intensity exercise here and there, this can help kick up your metabolism (for example, jog for 30 seconds every 5 minutes or so during a walk).
Regarding your thyroid, be sure to cook any cruciferous and root vegetables (other than carrots) – this may help.
