MemberMy husband is a diabetic, he takes 4 shots a day. 2 at breakfast, 1 at lunch and 1 at dinner. With the extra snacks in between, I have no idea when to start breakfast. With this forum of eating snacks, I am not sure how to incorporate them. I am just use to eating 3 meals a day. I also have just recently retired so I am trying to get in sync with his timing of eating. He is not a good diabetic, but manages. In order for me to go on this, I just don’t know how to start.

MemberHi, bcarman. It is generally recommended to eat the first meal within about an hour of waking, and for the rest of the meals to be spaced about 2-3 hours apart. Because of his insulin regime, it is recommended that he consult with his health care provider regarding this new plan so medications can be adjusted, if needed. If it becomes too challenging, I suggest to swap the current snacks for high protein and low-carbohydrate options, i.e. nuts and vegetables instead of crackers and fruit.
