Can I replace this meal with anything else ?
Hi, Abmbanks1. Yes. Just click on the edit tool (a pencil icon) to the right of this item in your menu, then select an alternative from the pop-up list.
I’ve heard that legumes (peanuts, soy, etc.) have an amino acid that triggers insulin production, and so peanut butter should not be included in a keto diet. Is this incorrect?
Hi, Banareio. It’s a bit of an exaggeration. Peanuts, soy, and green beans are fine, other legumes are less favored on a keto plan.
Hello, can unsweetened almond milk be used instead of the coconut milk?
Hi, Missvickie17. No, because almond milk is not high enough in fat. The coconut milk used here is the type from a can, for cooking rather than the beverage.
I used coconut milk from the fridge section as I didn’t know it was the milk from a can! I’ve just eaten it without knowing, what can I now do to increase my fat intake this morning?
Hi, Carly83. You can put some heavy cream in your coffee or tea, or whip some and top your pudding with it.
I don’t have almond butter, what can i use instead?
Hi, Sandra. Any nut or seed butter will do, including tahini. Just a note – you can make almond butter by putting skinless (“blanched”) almonds in a high-powered chopper for several minutes.
I purchased coconut milk that you find in the refrigerator section of the grocery store. Is this the correct option for the recipe?
Hi, Tiffy2280. No, the coconut milk in the keto recipes is from a can or mini-carton, intended for cooking rather than drinking straight.
You mention to stay away from artificial sweetener. I had gastric RNY and enjoy my tea with sugar free syrup to keep my sugar levels down. What would be a safer alternative for sweet without the sugar?
Hi, Mhardman81. Stevia, erythritol, and monk fruit are all acceptable natural no-carb, no-calorie sweeteners.
What type of beverage can you have with dinner?
Hi, VirginiaMcSwain. We of course recommend water, still or carbonated, plain or flavored with cut up fruit peels (just steep like tea). We also recommend teas and coffee – just be wise about what you add to it, avoiding artificial creamers and sweeteners. If you like soda, we recommend you make your own rather than relying on readymade products with excessive sugar or artificial sweeteners that can work against your goals here; just dress up plain soda water with natural flavor extracts (yes, “cola” is available!) or citrus peels and a natural no-carb sweetener (such as Stevia, monk fruit, and/or erythritol).
For the coconut milk: is it the coconut beverage like a substitute for example almond milk or is it the canned coconut milk version?
Hi, hannav. It is the canned type for cooking.
Can you remplace almond butter with peanut butter?
Hi, Diana. Sure ?
What is stevia?
Hi, Isabella54. Stevia is a no-carbohydrate, non-caloric sweetener derived from the leaves of the plant species Stevia rebaudiana. It has many time the sweetness of sugar, so is used in tiny amounts, usually combined with a less sweet natural non-caloric sweetener like erythritol.
