Hi, cjsmith98926. The combination of cocoa powder and milk (to make chocolate milk or hot cocoa, as you wish) is intended to be sweetened to your taste – the following is a link to recommended sweeteners: http://www.trimdownclub.com/the-best-way-to-sweeten-your-tea-2/.
i really like chocolate so i’m checking out those recipes and see ‘cocoa powder’ a lot. in this recipe i could understand it being unsweetened because powdered sugar is added but it also just says ‘cocoa powder’ to add to milk as a snack. if that was unsweetened it would be pretty bad. would you give a little more info on what cocoa powder is being referred to or an example? thanks!
Hi, AMSRoger. It is a matter of controlling not only for pesticide residues (which are more concentrated in some foods), but also for certain processes that take place in common industrial agricultural practices that may work against healthy weight management. As for contamination, conventional foods are also not exempt, and the FDA is sadly understaffed in many areas (even medications and medical devices). You can read more about why organic may be preferable for some foods here: http://www.trimdownclub.com/when-to-go-organic.
Why must some ingredients be organic? Organic means there is more danger from nature’s diseases such as E. coli and Salmonella. Not enough USDA organic inspectors to view all supposedly-organic products.
Elynne, that’s a great idea! (we would just add to be sure the cornstarch isn’t GMO).
I wouldn’t want the powered sugar….try heavy blending of Stevia with 1 Tbs of cornstarch instead
Hi, Jelena. There are unrefined powdered sugars, such as http://wholesomesweeteners.com/Products/productdetail/tabid/170/PId/65/Organic-Powdered-Sugar.aspx. However, we will add that powdered sugar substitute works as well http://www.amazon.com/Just-Like-Sugar-Baking-Sweetener/dp/B0046HJR3O (but is harder to find in stores).
All these recipes that include sugar – really need to be updated with instructions on how to convert to Stevia instead – in my opinion.
Hi, Ddrangle. You’re right, and some (including this one) do have an alternative. We are working on a master guide. Stay tuned…
How can this be any good? You’ve replaced butter with avocado, great idea! But what about all that sugar?
