What can I use in place of mussels?not a big fan of these.
Hi, Lena1968. Any shellfish will do – just add another 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil.
what can I use instead of butter?
Hi, kikiextreme. You can use coconut oil instead, or a “smart” margarine based on olive oil or flaxseed.
Shopping list said 1/2 lb mussels, is it 1/2 or whole pound?
Hi, Ppaula. It should be a whole pound in the shells, and 1/2 lb of the meat. I will forward the issue to our tech department.
I don’t like mussels or olives I have recipes with both. Not all it offered on advertisement. Fooled again
Hi, CMCNEAL1972. The menu you receive is a template. You can make selections from the pop-up list that you get when you click on the edit tool to the right of the item you don’t want.
My sentiments exactly. They had us take the little quiz where I told them no Seafood and low and behold I get mussels ! How many people in a room would pick mussels??
Hi, Chickstl. Your menu is just a template. You can click on the edit or crossout tool to the right of any item you don’t want, then replace it with an alternative from the pop-up list.
I’m not too knowledgable on wines, I’m out of white wine and my Aldi does not carry ANY wines.. not even cooking wine (gotta love NY!). Can I use rice wine, marsala or sherry? if not, what can I sub with? I do like the flavor white wine adds to food but I’m just out at the moment and only order my food online thru instacart/aldi.
Hi, Kristinapedia. You absolutely CAN use any of those alternatives. No worries.
i don’t drink any alcohol so what can i use instead of wine to add to my dish?
Hi, Bigman15001. You can substitute with regular vegetable broth. There are plenty of other flavors in the recipe.
The alcohol cooks out the wine is for flavor. You will not get drunk.
I don’t drink alcohol so can i cook the mussels in something other than wine?
Hi, Bigman15001. You can substitute with regular vegetable broth. There are plenty of other flavors in the recipe.
Can smoothies be substituted for any of these meal? Is there a guide or smoothies menus?
Hi, Deitraj98. Our current smoothie recipes are not keto-supportive, but I would be happy to help you with options if you wish to substitute for one of the meals. All I need is a list of the smoothie ingredients you like, and of course, what you absolutely do NOT want – and I will post some ideas here.
where I live I can’t get mussels or even rainbow trout is there a substitute
Hi, Blondzilla. Any fish or even chicken or tofu will do.
Why do you ask what foods we like if you’re not going to take that into consideration when doing the menu? I specifically picked that I don’t like fish and everyday on week 1 has some type of fish recipe.
Seriously!!! Plus this site is difficult to navigate and not everything on my menu seems Keto. This is not what I thought it would be.
Hi, Gamekada. I’m happy to help. What on your recipe doesn’t seem to be keto? What are you seeking on the site that is difficult to find.
Hi, Toriwants. The menu you first get is just a template. To switch out any foods you don’t want, click on the edit tools to the right of the item, then select a replacement from the pop-up list. In that list you will see foods that fit your request.
This is alot of work owning a business as well as kids wish you guys had a meal prep where u make the meals and mail to us
Hi, Sayers24. Until we have something like that, would it help if you had simpler menus that require minimal preparation?
Yes this is too much preparation, I need something simpler
Hi, cdyabaron. I suggest you change over to the regular low-carbohydrate route for the personal version of the Menu Planner, then just tweek it to be keto. You can do this by deselecting “keto” in the “Dietary Needs” section of your profile (lower right area), then generating a new menu. Once you have the template, click on the edit tool at the upper right of each meal, then make your food selections – you will be guided by the meal pattern, which you can make keto through the following substitutions:
* For each carbohydrate exchange, use two fat exchanges
* For each fruit exchange, use a vegetable exchange (unless you use low-carbohydrate fruits like cantaloupe, cassava melon, raspberries, or strawberries.
* For a fruit exchange, use an ounce of dark chocolate (preferably 70% or higher cocoa solids) or a 125-calorie portion of one of our keto desserts.
If you prefer fewer meals per day as in the keto plan, you can add exchanges from the unwanted snacks to your other meals. Note that since the system wants something at every meal, you can just add a random item like “Vegetables of Your Choice.”
If you would like additional help, please let me know.
I’m allergic to shellfish. Is there anything else I can use to substitute??
Hi, Crystal. Any fatty fish will do – salmon, trout, halibut, tuna, mackerel, even sardines.
What kind of white wine do you use in this?
Hi, Shance. Any dry (completely non-sweet) white wine will do.
